Woods Cross •Nearly two weeks after Olympus sputtered in its regular-season finale to give Murray the Region 7 title, the Titans came up with the perfect way to get payback.

How about taking the state championship in return?

Olympus will have a chance Thursday to win the Class 4A title, which no Spartans team has done, after both it and Murray advanced through the semifinals at Woods Cross on Tuesday.

Olympus, Region 7's No. 2 seed, beat top-ranked Mountain View 1-0, thanks to a 60th-minute goal from James Webb, who took a throw-in from Blaze Nelson and worked his way into the box before scoring.

"It was a perfect throw right over the top of the line," Webb said, "then it just bounced, spun off a guy and I saw the keeper coming off his line. So I just saw the back post."

Since the start of Region 7 play, Olympus has won six games 1-0, which coach Chris Sonntag credited to his defense and goalkeeper Ethan Cash.

"Gosh," Sonntag said, "I'd love a 2-0 or a 3-0, but they can do it [with 1-0]. You better not let us score."

Cash made his presence felt early in the second half with a pair of breakaway saves against Mountain View striker Chris Reyes, who scored 22 goals this season.

In the 46th minute, moments after one of Cash's saves, Reyes found the net, but was whistled offside, paving the way to Cash's 11th shutout.

Murray and Olympus split two regular-season meetings, with the Spartans winning 3-1 on April 17 at Olympus, and the Titans winning, 1-0 — how else ? — May 4 at Murray.

Murray 1, Orem 0 • It took Clay Powell only four minutes to break through. Well, 18 games and four minutes.

The Murray junior midfielder scored in the fourth minute of the Spartans' Class 4A semifinal game against Orem, all the scoring Murray would need in the 1-0 victory.

As a sophomore, Powell scored five goals, but this year, coach Bryan DeMann said, Powell tried to be too fancy with the ball. Near the end of the regular season, DeMann moved Powell from forward to the midfield.

"It was due to come, I feel like," Powell said. "Just been in a kind of slump but busted out this game, so it's all good." —
