Same views on same-sex marriage ...

The other day, we said this:

... Marriage traditionally has been a rite of the church, and it should remain so. The government should not have a hand in it. Rather, the state should sanction a contract between two people as a civil union. If, in addition to a civil union, a couple wishes to be married by a religious institution, that should be a matter between them and their community of faith. ...

More recently, our esteemed colleagues in Ogden said this:

... It would make sense to have the government get out of the business of marriage, and concern itself with providing civil unions, which would protect the rights that couples earn — as a family — when marriage occurs. As for "marriages," those could be granted by churches or whatever organizations want to conduct "marriages." ...

Today, our old friend Boyer Jarvis said something else:

... No doubt The Tribune editorial board has gone as far as its circumstances will permit toward embracing the principle of true equality for everyone in American society, regardless of sex, national origin, racial identity, religious belief, sexual orientation, etc. ...
