Midway • As the sunlight dwindled on Wasatch Mountain Golf Course, the Bingham Miners' excitement only kept mounting.

They had to wait until the day was done, but a short putt by junior Sirene Blair capped the Miners' third straight Class 5A team title, as well as her third straight individual championship. Bingham smashed second-place Alta by 18 strokes, going one-two in the individual category as Sam Crawford shot a career-best 76 on Wednesday.

The question in 5A was whether anyone could knock the Miners off the top of the podium. It seems now more prudent to ask: How long will the dynasty last?

"It is really nice to win again," Blair said. "There's a lot more pressure, a lot more attention because people are expecting you to win. But we needed all we could get."

Blair's 74 turned out to be the winning round, as her drives and a strong front nine helped carry her in another state tournament. But the phenom's performance was all but overshadowed by the surprise performance of Crawford, who shot five strokes under her best this year to edge Brighton's Cobair Collinsworth for runner-up.

On No. 4, the sophomore sank a 10-foot putt for birdie. The shot kept her, and her team, soaring all afternoon.

"It just keeps getting better," coach Liz Conry said. "The second time, the third time — it's always sweeter every time you win."

Two other Miners — Elena Pittenger and Alisha Terry — also made the top 10.

The tournament started on the back end of the Class 4A group, which led to a slight delay that had tournament officials crossing their fingers and watching the skies, hoping the field would finish in time. —
