Kearns • After clubbing its way to an 11-0 lead behind a solid pitching effort from Dallas Carroll and the bat of Jake Davison, the Taylorsville baseball team took its foot off the pedal.

It nearly cost the Warriors.

Kearns scored two runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth, but sophomore reliever Jordan West quelled the rally, sending Taylorsville to a 12-8 win that clinches the Region 2 championship.

"Jordan came into the game in a really tough spot," said junior Kyle Hoffman. "He was able to get us out of the fifth and shut them down the rest of the way."

After outscoring Kearns 16-0 in the series first two games, Game 3 started with the same Taylorsville flavor.

The Warriors sent the entire lineup to bat in a six-run second inning, with Dalton Carroll driving in two of them. The Warriors pushed across two more runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth for an 11-0 lead.

Kearns responded by scoring their first runs of the series in the bottom of the inning, when Jordan Floyd and Jordan Smedley scored.

Despite trailing 11-2, the Cougars didn't panic.

Taylorsville reliever Jake Greenburg started the bottom of the fifth struggling with his control. He gave up four runs in 2⁄3 of an inning before West was inserted.

West got the Warriors out of the jam, then pitched two scoreless innings to pick up the save.

"I thought Jordan showed a lot of maturity today, because he came in and trusted his skill set," said Taylorsville coach Jake Brown. "I thought our kids really responded to the pressure and overall we played good baseball this week."

Taylorsville is 11-1 in region play with only a 3-game series with Hunter left, while a 6-6 Kearns squad closes its regular season against West. —
