The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a California woman who was killed in a Monday rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Tooele County.
UHP Corporal Todd Johnson said Tuesday that Song Her Vang, 54, of Elk Grove, Calif., was dead at the scene of the 9:42 a.m. crash about 70 miles west of Salt Lake City. Johnson said the victim was ejected from the 1998 Silverado pickup truck when it swerved off the eastbound lanes and rolled several times.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as the Rev. Nou Toua Vang, 64, also of Elk Grove, Calif., remained in serious condition Tuesday. Vang, who is the husband of the victim, was being treated for spine and neck injuries at a Salt Lake City area hospital, Johnson said.
Investigators believe Vang fell asleep at the wheel. He was part of a caravan of three vehicles reportedly in the process of moving the former pastor of the Sacramento Hmong Alliance Church from California to Minnesota, according to a statement issued Tuesday by the Hmong District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance church organization.
Neither the driver nor the victim were believed to have been wearing their seat belts.
