Basketball: SLCC's Garrett signs with San Jose State, Central Wyo CC lands four Utahns

Former Pine View High basketball star Louis Garrett has signed to play basketball for San Jose State.
A 6-foot-6 forward, Garrett played for Salt Lake Community College last season, averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game for the Bruins, who went 22-9 under coach Todd Phillips.
Garrett, 21, signed a letter of intent with the Spartans last week. Six players on SLCC's team averaged between eight and 10.6 ppg. last season.
"Louis will be a very good addition to our program, said SJSU coach George Nessman.
Garrett played his freshman season at the College of Southern Idaho in 2008-09 before going on an LDS Church mission to Borneo.
He was a two-time first-team all-state selection at St. George's Pine View High.

Catching up on more basketball recruiting news from throughout the intermountain region:
* Four Utahns have signed to play for Central Wyoming Community College, which is coached by former Utahn Curtis Condie.
The list includes Jordan High senior Ryan Nemelka, Payson High senior Tanner Newbold, Granger senior Isaiah Tademy and East senior Arik Mawien.
The Rustlers went 21-11 last season.
Tademy averaged 16.3 ppg. last season but got off to a late start due to a broken hand. He also averaged 6.8 rebounds per game and made first-team all-region and honorable mention all-state.
Mawien averaged 9.3 ppg. at East last season while pulling down 5.4 rebounds per game.
Newbold averaged 17 ppg. for Payson and was second-team all-state while making 74 of 138 attempts from three-point range. He also shot 90 percent from the free-throw line.
Nemelka made 48 three-pointers at Jordan last season and averaged 14.5 ppg. for the Beetdiggers.
