Jazz's C.J. Miles, Earl Watson discuss injuries against Spurs
San Antonio — Excerpts from interviews with Jazz small forward C.J. Miles and point guard Earl Watson after Utah's 114-104 loss to the Spurs on Sunday.
Miles on strained left calf: I'm going to get an MRI [Monday]. They said they're just going to say it's a bad pull right now. I felt it as soon as it happened. [Danny Green] pushed off and I went backwards, and I pushed off and went back to chase him. … When it happened, it was like a pull and it felt almost like a little cramp — it went right away. But as soon as I tried to put all my pressure on it to run, I couldn't do anything. I tried to run; I tried to make it to half court. That's when I pointed to the sideline. I couldn't even walk. I had to walk on my heels all the way back. Because I can't lean forward — it hurts walking in a boot right now.
Play Monday against Spurs: I don't know. I don't know. If there's any way I can play, I can play. I don't sit down, not unless I have to. Even if it's a bad limp. If I can move, I'm going to play.
Bad time for injury: Terrible time. I [was] feeling good, too. I'm feeling fine. A little rhythm in the game. Except for [Friday] when I was throwing up.
Watson on sore right knee: It's a tough situation. I don't know if my leg was compensating for my ankle. It's been a tough, I guess, couple months because of the ankle. But things happen. Everything happens for a reason, so my spirit's always positive.
How the injury occurred: When I came down after shooting a layup, I feel like I came down wrong. I felt my knee lock up. It was anything painful. But it was just one of those odd injuries. Of course get the MRI [Monday], see what it is.
Play against Spurs: I can't even walk.
Prior knee injuries: I've never had surgery in my life. No injuries to my knees ever. … Whatever happens, happens. It's not like it's something painful or career-ending. It's basketball. You just deal with it and you get better and move on.
