Education reporter Lisa Schencker and I had an interesting live chat today with several readers on Utah's home-schooling laws and how they relate to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whose members educate all their children at home. Check it out here.

Advocates say hundreds of children don't get a complete education, but Utah authorities stay out of home-schools. The law bars them from testing kids or otherwise checking in on home-schools.

Home-school advocates - mainstream and from polygamous communities - say the last thing we need is another law, and that most teacher-parents are very dedicated to their children's education. In the FLDS, "at least half" of students do seem to be doing just fine at home, local educators say.

What do you think? Should the law change, or would that just create more red tape?
