Prosecutors charged a Midvale man on Tuesday for trying to grab more than money from a rental customer.

The man was charged in 3rd District Court with two class A misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.

On Jan. 6, a woman living near the 2200 block of East Murray Holladay Road answered her door to a man trying to collect payment for an item she had rented, according to court documents.

When the woman went to go collect some money, the Rent-A-Center employee grabbed the woman from behind and said if she didn’t have the cash they could work out a “trade,” according to court documents. The woman told the Rent-A-Center employee to leave, but he didn’t.

The man grabbed the woman’s breasts and her privates and tried to kiss her, court records state. The man left the house after he heard a door opening.

According to multiple Rent-A-Center employees, it is common practice to collect money at a residence for rental items.
