Taylorsville • On the Sky View bench, there wasn't much doubt Dannika Webb would do what needed to be done.

The senior guard calmly sank a pair of free throws with two seconds left, assuring the Bobcats a 56-52 win over Westlake in the first round of the Class 4A state tournament Monday night at Salt Lake Community College. It was a relatively smooth finish for what was a frenetically paced game.

"It was nerve-racking, and everything went helter-skelter after a while," said junior guard Maddie Day, who finished with a team-high 15 points. "We were going for steals and deflections, and it got out of control."

But when it needed to be in control, Sky View was. The Thunder's Shannon Jensen threatened until the very end, finishing with 20 points and drawing Westlake to within one.

But the Bobcats successfully kept the ball out of the Thunder's hands until the last two seconds, hitting three of their four final free throws to extend their lead. Sky View returns a lot of players from last year's semifinal run, and it paid off down the stretch.

Of course, the Bobcats had to go through a few headaches first. Westlake proved to be quite a match for Sky View, and the two teams were either tied or switching leads for most of the game. Turnovers and fastbreaks were the story of the late game.

However, Sky View gained a late advantage with rebounding. Day finished with 10 — including nine offensive boards — and Goldman had eight.

"We threw the ball away too many times," coach Kimber Hall said. "But we felt like we had the advantage inside: If we kept getting it there, we would score."
