Houston • Kyle Lowry’s game-high 32 points led the Rockets to a 101-85 victory against the Jazz on Sunday at the Toyota Center.
Al Jefferson’s team-high 23 points topped Utah (14-14).
Lowry was 7 of 8 behind the 3-point line.
The First: Rockets 23, Jazz 22
Paul Millsap scores eight points on 4-of-5 shooting in just seven minutes and Utah’s offense looks smooth from jumpball. Houston’s Kyle Lowry hits three wide-open 3-pointers, though.
The Second: Jazz 46, Rockets 45
Houston keeps threatening to pull away, but Utah’s aggressive and pesky defense keeps the Jazz close. Al Jefferson heats up, and Utah takes the lead despite not attempting a free throw.
The Third: Rockets 72, Jazz 64
Luis Scola and Lowry begin to pick Utah apart, and Houston approaches a game-changing run several times. Jefferson keeps the Jazz alive, but a late 3 by Courtney Lee hurts.
The Fourth: Rockets 101, Jazz 85
Kevin Martin steps up and Houston’s lead stretches to 80-67 after he hits a running jump shot. Eight consecutive points by Millsap brings the Jazz within two before Lowry and Lee fire away again.
