One Utah State assistant coach said it was flat out unfair that Danny Berger is even playing this season.
And he has a point.
Danny Berger started the season at 6-foot-7 and 195 pounds. He's not that anymore. He's now 6-7 and 180 pounds. He's lost weight, the weight he was supposed to gain by redshirting this season after returning from an LDS mission.
Predictably, Berger has had his issues. He's not strong enough to handle some of the bigger and more physical small forwards in the WAC. He sometimes has issues with his stamina.
But, the talent is there. For a guy his size, he can stroke the jumper and he can get to the basket off the dribble, as well as pass. That's why coaches think he will make a big leap next season when he's had a summer of weight lifting and truly working on his game.
If that happens, Utah State will have largely solved its small forward woes.
