A 42-year-old Washington County man died from injuries suffered in a crash, authorities said Monday.

Craig V. Thygerson was eastbound on State Road 59 near Apple Valley about 3:20 p.m. Friday when his 1994 Geo Prizm crossed the center line into oncoming traffic in the westbound lane, the Utah Highway Patrol reported in a news release.

The Geo hit a FedEx van nearly head-on before going off the shoulder and catching fire, UHP said. Thygerson was extricated from his car and taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center, where he died a short time later, the release said.

The van’s driver, Jacob A. Baker, 37, of St. George, was hospitalized in stable condition with lower-body injuries, UHP reported.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts and each had their air bags deploy. UHP does not suspect excessive speed, alcohol, or drug use were involved in the accident.
