Gov. Gary Herbert on Tuesday used his executive powers to pardon Lucky Tom, a 27-pound tom turkey who now will live to see at least one more Thanksgiving Day.
With the pardon, Lucky Tom, a turkey from the Moroni Feed Co/Norbest cooperative in Sanpete County, will take up residence at Farm Country at Thanksgiving Point, according to the Lehi attraction’s website.
Thanksgiving Point said on its website that the National Turkey Federation and the Poultry and Egg National Board since 1947 have given a turkey to the president at a White House ceremony. George H.W. Bush in 1989 became the first president to officially pardon a turkey, the website said.
Officials from the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food as well as Thanksgiving Point were on hand for Lucky Tom’s pardon.
