Hiked much in the Uintas? He's got you beat
He's 76 years old, but you won't be able to tell by a pedometer.
Cordell Andersen has hiked 1,500 miles in the Uinta Mountains since returning to Utah in 2002, according to a great article by Tribune reporter Brett Prettyman. That includes a 27-day expedition that took Andersen 236 miles.
Andersen documents his hikes on his website, http://www.cordellmandersen.com. As interesting as his current adventures is his first trip to the Uinta Mountains in 1952. From the article:
"We hiked the whole canyon in the dark. One of the kids fell off the trail into the creek. We heard him yelling and went back to help him We didn't know anything about lightweight backpacking. We had whole watermelons, cans of pork and beans and Hires root beer in glass bottles."
