Matt Carlino, the 6-foot-2 point guard who announced two weeks ago that he was leaving UCLA, is transferring to BYU. A source close to BYU's coaching staff said Carlino told coach Dave Rose that he will enroll at BYU this upcoming semester. Carlino's commitment becomes binding when he participates in his first practice with the Cougars. That could come as soon as this week, although the source was not sure when Carlino would arrive in Provo and begin working out with the team. Carlino will become eligible to play for BYU at the end of fall semester in 2011, which means he can play as soon as final exams end that semester. His case is similar to that of New Mexico's Drew Gordon, who transferred from UCLA last year and became eligible just last Sunday.

The Cougars will meet Weber State in less than an hour here at the Dee Events Center.
