They discovered boxes of VHS tapes and binders filled with offensive plays and coaching instructions, saved for decades by Roger French, who coached them as BYU offensive linemen. Anae, now the Cougars’ offensive coordinator, and Tujague, the line coach, spent roughly 24 hours over parts of three days in July watching film with French. The experience “brought back a lot of great memories...

Copyright 2013 The Salt Lake Tribune. All rights reserved. But there’s a strong possibility that the Cougars could be starting three freshmen, maybe more, when they line up against the Huskies at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 29. And they are not guys who were highly touted out of high school, either. It might be because he redshirted during his first season in Provo, after a church mission to Mexico. Kyle Johnson is sort of the man of mystery among coach Garett Tujague’s hogs up front, and the walk-on from Sandy’s Jordan High School knows it. “I’m just a hard worker who does what the coaches tell me ...

Copyright 2013 The Salt Lake Tribune. Tujague was optimistic, but a bit guarded, as you can read in this report in today’s Tribune about the unit that is under so much scrutiny in preseason training camp. My biggest takeaway was that the new guys who were either brought in or switched from defense to offense are better than some of the guys who played a lot the last few seasons.
