About a year and a half ago, Salt Lake Tribune outdoor writer Brett Prettyman was having coffee with KUED-Channel 7’s Ken Verdoia and pitching him a few ideas for documentaries. “I kind of envisioned that he wanted hard-core news,” Prettyman said. “Big issues.” He suggested federal lands in Utah. Wyoming Game and Fish Department biologist Craig Amadio shared this image of a Wyoming biologist holding a 52-pound, 45-inch lake trout caught in a gillnet near the Utah/Wyoming state line last week. The fish, according to Utah fisheries biologist Ryan Mosley, would have topped the Utah record by more than a pound and the Wyoming record by 2 pounds. “The fish was measured, weighed, pumped for stomach contents and released to taunt anglers for years to come,” Mosley said.

Re “Convicted Philadelphia abortion doctor gets life in prison” (Tribune, May 15): I was pleased to see your paper cover the conviction and sentencing of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell for first-degree murder for killing with scissors babies who were delivered alive. It surprised me that coverage of this murderer’s trial was virtually ignored by most newspapers (including The Tribune) and other media in this country, despite the absolutely gory details of what this animal did to these babies. ...
