Re “Convicted Philadelphia abortion doctor gets life in prison” (Tribune, May 15): I was pleased to see your paper cover the conviction and sentencing of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell for first-degree murder for killing with scissors babies who were delivered alive. It surprised me that coverage of this murderer’s trial was virtually ignored by most newspapers (including The Tribune) and other media in this country, despite the absolutely gory details of what this animal did to these babies. ...

Carlos Zambrano, Phils agree to minor league deal

Philadelphia • Right-hander Carlos Zambrano has agreed to a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Zambrano will report this week to Clearwater, Fla., for extended spring training. The three-time All-Star hasn’t pitched in the majors since last September with Miami. Zambrano, 31, is 132-91 with a 3.66 ERA in 12 seasons, including 11 with the Chicago Cubs, averaging 14 wins with a 3.43 ERA from 2003-10. He was 16-17 with a 4.66 ERA the last two seasons.

Philadelphia • Donovan McNabb says he will retire with the Philadelphia Eagles this fall. The six-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the Eagles to four NFC championship games and a Super Bowl loss in 11 seasons before he was traded to Washington in 2010. McNabb went 92-49-1 with the Eagles and holds franchise records for completions (2801), passing yards (32,873) and passing touchdowns (216).
