Odds were stacked in the favor of Kyle Beckerman, Nick Rimando and Alvaro Saborio to represent their respective countries on the world’s stage in Brazil. It was also common knowledge that missing each player would bring respective talent gaps that needed to be replaced upon their departing in mid-May. It’s throwback, no doubt, because Chris Wingert can’t help but chuckle when he explains his approach to furthering his preparation for each day and upcoming match. He takes notes. For the longest time, it was, indeed, in a notebook he carried around with him littered with scribbles of scouting reports, tendencies and crucial can’t-miss information about the next opponent. Times have changed a smidge. Wingert’s cerebral method has translated to endless...

Copyright 2013 The Salt Lake Tribune. Still potentially during U.S. World Cup play, a crucial Western Conference showcase between Real Salt Lake and the Galaxy had the makings of two undermanned sides squaring off at StubHub Center. The couple getting married were Jackson Galaxy, who stars on the Animal Planet show “My Cat From Hell,” and Minoo Rahbar, who works with Kitten Rescue Los Angeles. The ringbearer was their dog, Mooshka. The intimate ceremony took place at Kanab’s Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the nation’s largest no-kill shelter for companion animals.

Copyright 2013 The Salt Lake Tribune.
