NBA • A person familiar with the deal says the Maloof family has reached an agreement with a Sacramento group headed by software tycoon Vivek Ranadive to sell a 65 percent controlling interest in the Kings at a total franchise valuation of $535 million. The person, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press late Thursday night, said there are about 30 investors in the group. An announcement is expected Friday. Dallas • The Dallas Stars fired coach Glen Gulutzan on Tuesday, an expected move by new general manager Jim Nill for a franchise that has missed the playoffs a record five straight seasons. Gulutzan’s dismissal came about two weeks after Nill replaced Joe Nieuwendyk, who was fired after four seasons. The condition of a Duchesne man hurt in a crash with a semi-trailer rig had improved and he was expected to be released from the hospital soon, the Utah Highway Patrol said Tuesday. UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said the 19-year-old man had been listed in serious condition Monday afternoon following the accident on U.S. 40 near the highway’s junction with State Route 87, just west of Roosevelt. The record-breaking heat that toasted Utah’s capital city on Monday isn’t expected to last as more spring-like temperatures take hold later in the week. The National Weather Service confirmed that Monday’s high of 93 degrees in Salt Lake City broke a record of 92 set for the date in 1996. It is also the earliest day in the year that 93 degrees has been reached, according to the NWS. The previous record for the earliest 93-degree reading was May 16, 1927.
