He did not miss. You can see the cougar’s body jerk on the video when it’s hit. How’s that for a contributing factor to the cougar’s death? Even more alarming would be an officer firing a shotgun in a public place at a target he can’t hit. Police choose their targets, then aim carefully. The animal died while under the effect of the tranquilizer, according to Scott Root, a DWR outreach manager.
