West Valley City to join SLC on new crime lab?

After spending more than $138,000 over the past year on planning and studies, Salt Lake City and West Valley City are working toward developing a new joint crime lab and evidence center. Drunken-driving convictions declined after liquor laws liberalized

Statewide, 39 fewer people were convicted on drunken-driving charges in 2012 than in 2008. Information from the Utah State Courts shows that 2,705 people were convicted in district courts of driving under the influence in 2008, the year before the Legislature abolished the state’s private club law. The law required people to obtain membership at clubs to purchase alcoholic beverages.
