The Library of Congress will honor Stevie Wonder with its second Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Librarian of Congress James Billington, who announced the prize Tuesday, noted that the prize honors an artist whose work transcends musical styles to bring diverse listeners together and foster mutual understanding. It recognizes a musician's lifetime of work. Wonder, 58, will receive the award on Feb. 23, 2009. The first Gershwin Prize was awarded in 2007 to Paul Simon.
Usher planning concert just for his female fans
Usher is preparing a tour for ladies only. The R&B singer revealed in a recent interview with The Associated Press that he will soon announce details of his ''One Night Stand'' tour. He said specific dates are still being worked out for about 15 ''intimate'' venues. Asked why he wanted to perform a ''ladies only'' tour, Usher said he relishes the challenge. ''There's only a few artists that can pull that off,'' said the 29-year-old. Last year, Usher married Tameka Foster and the couple had a son, Usher Raymond V. Though now a family man, Usher hasn't relinquished his sex symbol status.
R&B musician Ne-Yo wins suit against promoter
A concert promoter has been ordered to pay R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo $700,000 stemming from a lawsuit filed earlier this year. Ne-Yo was dropped from R. Kelly's tour last year after two shows. He claimed he was dropped because he had upstaged Kelly, an allegation the singer vehemently denied. Kelly was not a party to the lawsuit. Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Smith, instead sued the tour's promoter, Rowe Entertainment Inc. The promoter never answered the lawsuit, and last week Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey ordered the company to pay Ne-Yo and his touring company $700,320.
