State colleges: Utah Valley rips Oregon State

Cole Anderson hit a fourth-inning grand slam as the Utah Valley baseball team defeated two-time College World Series champion Oregon State 11-6 on Monday in Corvallis, Ore.

Marcus Moore (9-5) pitched eight innings and allowed three earned runs (six total) on nine hits to move to get the win.

The Beavers (24-20) scored five runs in the eighth to make things interesting but Jace Brinkerhoff pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win for Utah Valley.

* University of Utah catcher Jesse Shriner has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, after helping the Utes win five straight games. Shriner, a Littleton, Colo., native, went 12-for-23 (.522) with three home runs, 10 RBIs and eight runs scored during the week.

Softball

University of Utah outfielder Diana Phillips, first baseman Kara Foster and pitcher Ashley Smuda were named to all-Mountain West Conference team on Monday.

The all-MWC team is chosen by the league's coaches.

Track and field

Utah State's Stacie Lifferth-Dorius was selected as the Western Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

Lifferth-Dorius, a senior from Layton, was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 10:21.11 at the Oregon Twilight meet Friday evening at Eugene, Ore.
