State colleges: TCU beats Utah in baseball

The Texas Christian University baseball team scored all of its runs in the first three innings and held on for a 6-3 win over Utah on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Horned Frogs (32-16, 15-5 Mountain West Conference) chased Utes starting pitcher Brian Budrow from the game in the third inning. In 2 2/3 innings of work, he gave up five hits, six runs and four walks. Budrow (4-5) had three strikeouts.

Designated hitter Cody Guymon led Utah (16-23, 5-11 MWC) at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Oklahoma State 9, Utah Valley 4: In Stillwater, Okla., the ninth-ranked Cowboys (35-11) put up seven runs in the bottom of the third. The Wolverines fell to 12-31-1.

UVU's Scott Croshaw went 2-for-5, extending his hitting streak to 16 games, and Josh Hinckley was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Western Illinois 5-5, SUU 4-1 In Macomb, Ill., SUU reliever Kyle Hamman took the loss in the first game, and starter Mac Nelson took the loss in the nightcap as the Thunderbirds fell to 23-20 overall and 10-7 in the Summit League.

Softball

UVU 11-5, CSU Bakersfield 5-4: Meghan Woodworth and Magan Niemann each hit a home run in the first game, and Utah Valley swept the doubleheader in Orem to improve to 16-32 on the season.

North Dakota State 1-5, Southern Utah 0-0: In Fargo, N.D., the Thunderbirds got swept in the doubleheader and fell to 19-32 overall and 12-9 in the Summit League.
