Utah skiers finish third in NCAA Championships story

Eva Huckova and Mikaela Grassl earned first-team All-America honors in the women's slalom as Utah finished third on Saturday in the NCAA Skiing Championships in Bozeman, Mont.

The third-place run was Utah's best finish since 2005, when the Utes also finished third.

Huckova finished second in the slalom, and Grassl placed fourth.

Denver won the team title with 649.5 points, Colorado was second with 619 points and Utah third with 550.

In the men's slalom, Utah's Tague Thorson finished with the leading time, but the judges ruled that he straddled a gate and his time was nullified.

Baseball

Utah 10, Southern Utah 0: In Cedar City, Jesse Shriner had five hits and four RBIs to lead the Utes to the win in a snow-shortened, seven-inning game.

BYU 11, UC Davis 8: In Davis, Calif., Dan Vargas had two doubles and a solo home run, along with the go-ahead RBI single to score Andrew Law in the eighth inning for the Cougars (6-7).

Softball

In College Station, Texas, BYU dropped its final two games of the 2008 Aggie Classic, losing to Illinois, 14-5, and Louisiana Lafyette, 7-3. The Cougars are now 12-10.

BYU's Stephanie Platt Hopkins had a grand slam against Illinois.
