The Utes defeated UNLV and Air Force last week to improve to 20-3 and run their win streak to 15 games. They are 9-0 in Mountain West Conference play and are off until Saturday at San Diego State.
Also Monday, Utah point guard Leilani Mitchell perhaps solidified her MWC Player of the Year award, as she was named conference Co-Player of the Week for the fifth time this season.
Mitchell recorded double-doubles in both Ute victories and averaged 22.5 points and 10 assists. She shared the award with TCU freshman guard Helena Sverrisdottir.
Utah's Bryant honored
Utah's Johnnie Bryant was named the Mountain West Conference player of the week for the second time in three weeks Monday, after averaging 21.5 points in victories over UNLV and Air Force last week.
Bryant shared the award with New Mexico's J.R. Giddens, who averaged 27.5 points in wins over Colorado State and Wyoming.
The Utes had not won the award in more than a year before Bryant did it two weeks ago. This is the first time in three seasons that they have won it more than once.
A senior guard, Bryant led the Utes with a season-high 26 points in beating UNLV to knock the Rebels out of first place last week, then scored 17 points in Utah's first victory at Air Force in three years.
UVSC's Toolson honored
Utah Valley State's Ryan Toolson is the Division I Independent Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 38 points against Chicago State to lead UVSC to a 99-89 overtime victory.
