Posted: 3:53 PM- In two seasons as the Brigham Young football coach, Bronco Mendenhall took the program back to its glory days.

With that, Mendenhall agreed to terms Wednesday that will extend his contract through the 2011 season.

"Bronco has done a tremendous job of re-establishing BYU's tradition of football excellence, and leading the program back to national prominence," athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a release.

Entering his third season, Mendenhall has guided the Cougars to a 17-8 record.

He posted an 11-2 record last season, winning the Mountain West Conference with an 8-0 record. The Cougars capped off the season by beating Oregon 38-8 in the Las Vegas Bowl, BYU's first bowl win since 1996.

In his first year, he complied a 6-5 regular-season record, giving BYU its first winning season since the 2001.

Mendenhall won the MWC Coach of the Year award last season.
