Jordan Swarbrick scored 21 points and Utah Valley defeated Houston Baptist 72-66 Saturday night in Orem.
Jourdain Scoubes added 14 points and Aaron England 13 for the Wolverines (11-12, 4-3 Great West).
Miles Dixon led the Huskies (5-17, 4-2) with 23 points while Wendell Preadom added 15 and eight rebounds.
Houston Baptist built a nine-point lead early in the first half before Utah Valley rallied to take 30-29 halftime lead. The Wolverines later pushed their lead to nine before holding on to win their second straight.
The Huskies shot just 37.1 percent.
"I thought it was an terrific overall inspired win, especially coming off an emotional evening [Thursday] with the Ronnie Price hall of fame induction. The kids battled and fought," UVU head coach Dick Hunsaker said. "Everyone played well, and I liked the way we maintained our aggressiveness."
Houston Baptist's Miles Dixon led all scorers with 23 points.
UVU led by one at the break, and in the first nine minutes of the second half the score was tied five times and the lead changed hands six times with neither team leading by more than four. The Wolverines went up by four at 51-47 on their third straight three-pointer and second straight by Scoubes. At one point, Scoubes scored eight consecutive points.
North Dakota State 79, SUU 59 » In Fargo, N.D., Davis Baker scored 20 points and Matt Massey added 18 for Southern Utah (6-17, 2-10), but the Thunderbirds were doomed by NDSU's 22-11 run at the end of the first half.
Eric Carlson scored 19 points and Nate Zastrow added 16 to lead North Dakota State. Josh Vaughan had 15 points for the Bison (9-14, 6-7 Summit League).
The 22-11 run over the last 8:42 of the first half gave North Dakota State a 39-28 halftime lead. The Thunderbirds got no closer than eight points in the second half.
Westminster 68, Montana State-Northern 47 » In Havre, Mont., Michael Stockton had a breakout game off the bench, scoring a career-high 24 points on 9-for-14 shooting to lead the Griffins to the win.
With the victory, Westminster (18-5, 8-1 Frontier Conference) opened a two-game lead over Montana State-Northern atop the league standings.
The Griffins took control of the game behind a 12-2 run midway through the first half, taking a 21-11 lead. Northern got back within eight with 15:11 to play in the second half, but the Griffins used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to regain momentum and cruise to the victory.
