Provo » There's a reason why BYU center Brandon Davies has been ill all week and played only three minutes in Tuesday night's 76-56 win over TCU for the No. 12-ranked Cougars.
Davies, who complained of stomach pain on Monday, has been admitted to a Provo hospital for an appendectomy.
The 6-foot-9 freshman from Provo High was scheduled to have his appendix removed Wednesday.
The Cougars did not practice on Wednesday. BYU coach Dave Rose said he will provide an update regarding Davies' health on Thursday after practice, but it is highly unlikely that the backup center will play in Saturday's Mountain West Conference showdown at UNLV.
Davies is averaging 5.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game for the Cougars.
