Dish Network 152; Comcast 269; DirecTV 613
Whether you're a satellite or cable subscriber, nearly all Utahns will be able to watch the Utah-Texas Christian football game tonight at 6 p.m.
It's just going to cost extra in most cases.
That's because the game will be televised on CBS College Sports, Channel 269 on Comcast cable, Channel 613 on DirecTV and Channel 152 on Dish Network. That network is available through add-on sports packages within each TV provider to which it costs extra money to subscribe.
While most of the Utah and Brigham Young football games have appeared either on Versus or the Mtn. cable networks, CBS College Sports purchased the broadcast rights to some of the Mountain West Conference games, including the Utah-TCU game and the upcoming BYU-Air Force game Nov. 15.
"To the fans who are now figuring this game [is on CBS College Sports], our football schedule was announced in April. This should not be a surprise," said Javan Hedlund, associate commissioner for communications for the MWC.
But there is a way to get the game and others for a month without it costing an arm and a leg.
Fans who get their programming from any of these providers can call up the cable or satellite company to get the additional sports package for just one month, get it activated over the phone before the game, and then cancel the package within the month, therefore just paying that fee for one month.
In the case of Comcast, the CBS College Sports network is only available if the subscriber has digital cable. If so, then it costs $5.99 to get the Sports Entertainment Package for one month. DirecTV subscribers must purchase the Sports Pack for $12. Dish Network subscribers must have the America's Top 200 (at $44.99 per month) package in order to get the network. Some of the providers also will be telecasting the game in high definition.
