The Nebo School District bond and leeway referendum appears decided but the final result can't be verified until July 1.

While voters approved the $160 million bond to build two new junior high schools and up to five new elementary schools 3,057-2,930, the margin was too narrow to formally declare a winner Tuesday night, said district spokeswoman Lana Hiskey.

The district will conduct a canvass Wednesday to officially determine if the bond and the leeway, which passed 3062-3005, passed.

She said there must be more than 200 votes difference before the results can be declared official.

The bond fell short of that margin, with it apparently passing by 127 votes, while the leeway passed with a 57-vote margin.

Hiskey said 10.36 percent of the district's registered voters took part in the election.

She said the district also had 61 absentee and 103 provisional ballots that also still must be counted.

The district sought voter approval for new buildings to accommodate a growing student population. The leeway -- which would pay for staffing and maintaining the new buildings -- would have raised taxes on a $250,000 home by about $13.75 a year.
