Real Salt Lake's Nathan Sturgis said he was worried that his lingering hamstring injury would keep him from reaching the Olympics.

For the moment, though, everything's fine.

Sturgis and goalkeeper Chris Seitz were among the 18 players named Thursday to the U.S. Olympic Team for the upcoming Beijing Games, with RSL teammate Robbie Findley named one of four alternates. All three players will join RSL for its game at Chicago on Saturday, before traveling to the Olympic training camp in California.

"It's a big honor," Sturgis said. "I'm still trying to not get too far ahead of myself, because right now I'm still trying to stay healthy and play."

That's something the midfielder has scarcely done in the last two months because of his injury. His entrance in the 89th minute of a victory over Columbus last weekend was his first appearance for RSL since April 19 - originally, he had been expected to miss no more than four weeks - and he left a reserve game at Brigham Young on Tuesday night after just eight minutes. Coach Jason Kreis said his selection was "a bit of a gamble."

Still, Sturgis believes he has enough time to regain his fitness and be healthy for the Olympics, even though he left RSL practice early Thursday.

"I feel like I'm ready," he said.

Seitz has been ready for some time, knowing he was all but certain to join the team after emerging as a star for the national youth teams. It appears he will have to fight for playing time, though, since coach Peter Nowak also named veteran keeper Brad Guzan as one of three "over-age" players on the otherwise under-23 team.

"It's not that big a surprise," Seitz said. "I knew that it was definitely a possibility, so I'll just go in there, put my head down and work hard like I've always been doing, and hopefully, we'll see what happens."

Twelve of the 18 players named to the team have experience with the full national team, including legendary striker Brian McBride and former RSL midfielder Freddy Adu. Findley could join them if another player gets hurt, but he likely would replace only an injured fellow striker, not a defender or midfielder like Sturgis.

RSL still shut out

Three players will miss the Major League Soccer All-Star Game after being named to the U.S. Olympic Team on Thursday, but none will be replaced by anybody from Real Salt Lake.

Columbus' Robbie Rogers, Chivas' Sacha Kljestan and New England's Michael Parkhurts will attend training camp next week before the Beijing Games in China. But they will be replaced at the All-Star Game on July 24 in Toronto by New England's Steve Ralston, FC Dallas' Juan Toja and Chivas' Jonathan Bornstein.
