A man is accused of kidnapping two neighbor children as they slept in their South Salt Lake home on the Fourth of July.

In charges filed Tuesday, police wrote that the 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy were sleeping with several other children early Friday morning in the living room of their home near 400 E. Maxwell Lane (2890 South).

About 6:30 a.m., one of the adults noticed the 2-year-old girl was missing. She heard children crying from inside a nearby home and found the child, along with the 4-year-old, in the bedroom of the neighbor's home.

The man who lived there admitted he brought the children to his home, police said.

The man, 30, is charged with two counts of child kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and one count of burglary, a second-degree felony.
