Posted: 7:33 PM- A man is accused of kidnapping two neighbor children as they slept in their South Salt Lake home on the Fourth of July.

In charges filed Tuesday, police wrote that the 2-year-old girl and 4-year-old boy were sleeping with several other children early Friday morning in the living room of their home near 400 East Maxwell Lane. The parents of the children were outside the home but regularly checked on the children, police wrote.

About 6:30 a.m., one of the adults noticed the 2-year-old girl was missing. She heard children crying from inside a nearby home and found the child, along with the 4-year-old in the bedroom of the neighbor's home.

The man who lived there admitted he brought the children to his home, police said. None of the adults at the children's home had given him permission to take the children or even to be inside their home, police wrote.

The man, 30, is charged with two counts of child kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and one count of burglary, a second-degree felony.
