Salt Lake City's Matt Dorame spoke with The Salt Lake Tribune on Tuesday from his parents' Glendale, Ariz., home, just days after being eliminated from "So You Think You Can Dance."
Dorame wound up in the bottom two with fellow Utahn Thayne Jasperson; the two also dance for the same company, Salt Lake City's Odyssey Dance Theatre.
Tune in Wednesday night to see the top 12 perform.
Here's what Dorame had to say:
On what's next for the dancer: "I come back to Utah in a week. I'm not going to jump back into Odyssey, because they've been rehearsing for the Beijing Olympics [while he was on the show]. I want to see what's out there and what [jobs are] offered to me. Usually I go to school in the summer, but I'm going to take a break, look for an agent, and just see what opportunities come up."
On his impression of "So You Think You Can Dance?": It's funny because people are always saying reality TV is not reality, and I was always like, 'Oh, OK.' But it's definitely not what you expect. I actually didn't think I was going to like being on the show. I hate competition. But I kept getting farther and farther. I laughed so much more [on the show] than I ever have in my entire life. There were so many extraordinary, crazy, funny people. It was really great getting to know them." On performing with the other three dancers from Utah - Chelsie, Thayne and Gev: "I've known all of them for years. It was seriously a blessing [to have them on the show] because sometimes it gets really tough, but we were always supportive of each other. There were actually a few [dancers] from Dallas, so they would challenge us but we would hold our ground." Did you have a dance battle?: "No, but we should have. That would have been so funny." On how he thinks the other three will do in the competition: "They're going to do really well. It's really hard for B-boys [to pick up the other styles of choreography], but Gev is representing. And Thayne, I think it'll be a little harder for him because the judges have been really hard on contemporary dancers [this season], so we'll see, but he's doing great. If I had to choose one, Chelsie is probably going to go the farthest because she's so versatile."
