Stadium of Fire: Miley Cyrus will debut songs she wrote for new album

Miley Cyrus is excited to be at Provo's Stadium of Fire on Friday, because she loves the Fourth of July . . . and her new songs.

The 15-year-old star of the Disney Channel show "Hannah Montana" will provide her own new fireworks for the sold-out crowd at LaVell Edwards Stadium in a 45-minute concert.

"This is my first show with all new songs," Cyrus said.

The singer will premiere material from her album "Breakout," which will be in stores July 22. It promises to show a different side of Cyrus, who said she wrote all of the songs except two, and that it will be "more personal."

That means tonight's audience will be among the privileged few - if you consider more than 60,000 people "few" - to hear Cyrus' new stuff.

Her first single, "7 Things," is on iTunes and on YouTube, but other than that, there are surprisingly few leaks about the new album.

Cyrus said she was delighted to come back to Utah because she has always had a good response here.

After all, she made her concert film, "Best of Both Worlds," in Utah and shot a cameo in "High School Musical 2" here. Besides, she likes to perform and "let loose," she said.

"Anytime I can do a show, I'm like so totally excited," she said. "I couldn't think of better ways to spend the Fourth of July."

Cyrus will headline tonight's show, with CNN Headline News commentator Glenn Beck as emcee and the Blue Man Group opening.

Scott Kinworthy, part of the Blue Man Group that normally headlines the Venetian in Las Vegas, said he and his two partners are "extremely excited" to make the drive to Provo and perform with Cyrus.

They want to "introduce ourselves to [her young] demographic," Kinworthy said.

The Blue Man Group is part music, part performance art, featuring three mute men with blue greasepaint, latex bald caps and black clothing who feel the constant need to drum using pipes.

The group performs at the 1,760-seat Blue Man Theatre at the Venetian, so it will tailor its set for Provo's much larger venue.

"It's a mold of certain pieces that can accommodate 60,000 people in a stadium," said Kinworthy, who added that while he has performed for as many as 30,000 people at one time, it has never been more than 60,000.

Only one question remained: Will the Blue Man Group persuade Cyrus to perform with blue paint on her face?

"What do you think?" Kinworthy said with a laugh.
