At the request of Congress, the federal government has released a list of the worst performing nursing homes in the nation.
Mt. Ogden Health and Rehabilitation is the only Utah nursing home listed. These "special focus facilities" have the worst track record over the last three years and must have two satisfactory inspections in a row to "graduate" from the program. The last Utah home on the list, Rock Canyon Rehabilitation, was replaced in October by Mt Ogden.

Later that year, the home was sold to the Ensign Group, a California company that runs 60 nursing homes in six states.
"We welcome the extra attention," said Greg Stapley, a spokesman for the company. But he acknowledged the designation has hurt business.
"It is always tough to explain to people that that was the guy before us," he said.
He hopes the public would recognize the change in management.
"Who is running the place is not just important," he said, "it is all important."
