LDS Church leaders approved funds to purchase large quantities of tarps, blankets, basic food, medical equipment and especially clean drinking water for those affected by the recent cyclone in Myanmar, church spokesman Scott Trotter said Wednesday.

All items are being purchased in Myanmar or in nearby countries. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is partnering with Atlanta-based CARE International, a well-known nongovernmental organization, to distribute the supplies.

LDS Church humanitarian representatives will continue to monitor and assess the situation, Trotter said.
