During the recent service led by the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori (presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church), I couldn't help but think of the inequity between this woman leader of 2.5 million American Episcopalians and the subservient women and girls of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
At every Eucharistic service, we read this portion from the Anglican "The Prayers of the People," which is dedicated to the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals: "Let us pray for the end to the divisions and inequalities that scar God's creation, particularly the barriers to freedom faced by God's children throughout the world because of gender: that all who have been formed in God's image might have equality in pursuit of blessings of creation."
I pray that the injustices done to the children, especially the girls, will be corrected.
