Existing home sales plunge 42 percent along Wasatch Front

Posted: 12:02 PM- Sales of existing single-family homes in Salt Lake County fell 42.2 percent to 1,822 units in the first quarter of the year compared to the same January to March period in 2007, a new report out today shows.

Home prices in the county remained virtually unchanged from last year, with the median price up less than one-half of 1 percent to $242,000, according to the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. The report does not include condominium sales.

In Davis County, which had a 26.6 percent decline in home sales, the median price also remained largely unchanged at $220,000, with a less than 1 percent increase in selling prices.

The median home price fell in Tooele County by 6.3 percent to $180,000, reflecting the steep 45.5 percent drop-off in sales over past year.

The median price was off 2 percent in Utah County to $229,940, with sales down 41.7 percent over last year. Only Weber County saw a 7.6 percent increase in the median sales price over last year, to $162,500, despite a 31.7 percent decline in sales in that county.
