A construction worker fell 50 feet to his death Thursday morning while working on a bridge over railroad tracks in Weber County. Antonio Contreras Martinez, 40, of Salt Lake City, was working with Wads- worth Brothers Construction to refurbish an overpass above Union Pacific rail lines near Interstate 84 and the Weber and Morgan county line about 10:45 a.m. when he fell from scaffolding suspended beneath the bridge.

Martinez suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene, said Weber County sheriff's Lt. Philip Howell.

Deputies are investigating the cause of the fall, but "initial indications are [the scaffolding] may have broken," Howell said. Investigators so far have found no sign of foul play, Howell said. Martinez had worked with the company for about 18 months. - Erin Alberty
