Posted: 2:06 PM- A Tooele woman has been charged with murder after a 14-month-old suffered head injuries and died.

Kimberly K. Emelyantsev appeared Thursday in 3rd District Court in Tooele, where a judge set a $500,000 cash-only bail. A scheduling hearing was set for Tuesday.

Court documents cite witnesses who said Emelyantsev, 33, was in her home with Nicoli shortly before the baby suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Emelyantsev offered some kind of explanation for the injuries, but a medical examiner found the explanation to be inconsistent with the trauma, court papers say.

Nicoli, who had Down syndrome, was adopted and had been with the family less than a month, according to a police report.

Emelyantsev's husband, Fyodor Emelyantsev, is in custody at the Tooele County jail on suspicion of child abuse involving a 4-year-old, who also was adopted from Russia.

The 4-year-old was being treated for malnourishment at Primary Children's Medical Center. Three other children -- ages 10, 5 and 2 -- were placed in the care of relatives.

Fyodor Emelyantsev works as a nurse at a rest home, while his wife recently quit her job as a paralegal to care for the children, according to prosecutors.
