Jazz Insider: Matt Harpring

Harpring and his wife, Mandy, had their first daughter, Kate Eileen, on Jan. 10. The couple also has a 2-year-old son, Luke.

What's it like to be the father of a newborn and also playing in the NBA?

It's great, I mean kids are a different side of life. It's great and it's tough on the other side of that, too. When you have your baby during the season, it's tough because everyone that has kids knows those first three months are pretty tough.

Do you ever feel like you're missing out when you're on the road?

Yeah, my wife will call me and be like, 'Kate smiled for the first time' or 'She's smiling all the time now' or 'Luke did something.' So that's tough. But it's fun when I get to go home and see them and I haven't seen them because I'm so much more excited.

Is it nice that there's a bunch of guys on this team with babies?

Yeah, Boozer's got a couple, Deron's got a couple. So actually, I think my wife can kind of go with them when I'm on the road and hang out and have kid play.
