Posted: 10:36 AM- Former University of Utah and NFL quarterback Scott Mitchell is the new head football coach at Springville High, principal Rick Robins announced Sunday.

A news conference will be held Feb. 7 to reintroduce Mitchell to the community, Robins said. Mitchell is a Springville High and Utah graduate who spent most of his time in the NFL quarterbacking for the Detroit Lions. He also played for the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals before retiring in 2001.

He is the most prolific passer in Utah football history and was named one of the top 100 athletes in Utah history by Sports Illustrated. Mitchell has been living in Orlando, Fla., and is a real estate developer.

Mitchell replaces Dan Hansen, who resigned after just one year at the helm. Hansen replaced Doug Bills, who left Springville after 25 years of coaching there and took the head coaching position at Union High in Roosevelt.
