Posted: 12:35 PM- Real Salt Lake continued the shuffling of its lineup Wednesday, completing the signing of defender Ian Joy. The 26-year-old will be with the team when it kicks off the preseason Saturday. Terms of the contract weren't disclosed.

Born in San Diego and raised in Scotland for much of his life, Joy has had a pro career that has included stops in Germany, Scotland and England. He was signed to the Columbus Crew in 2003, but never saw any MLS action.

Since the 2004-05 season, Joy has been with the Regionalliga side FC St. Pauli in the German Regionalliga Nord division.

"We are excited about adding an experienced American player like Ian to our team," said Real Salt Lake General Manager Garth Lagerwey. "He has played at a high level in Germany and played consistently well over the past several seasons, so we look forward to his contributions both on the field and as a leader in our locker room."
