It also didn't hurt that the Jazz were able to turn to forward Matt Harpring for a season-high 26 minutes. Harpring finished with 17 points in his first game since being medically cleared to play more minutes on his surgically repaired right knee.
Just like they did in Friday's victory over the Clippers in Salt Lake City, the Jazz had seven players score in double figures. Paul Millsap (17 points), Kyle Korver (13) and Harpring all did so off the bench.
It was just the Jazz's second road victory since Nov. 28. They had lost 10 of their last 11 road games, with the lone victory coming Dec. 21 at Orlando.
Harpring played 17 minutes in the second half and Andrei Kirilenko played just 10 minutes total because of foul trouble and went scoreless. Deron Williams paced the Jazz with 18 points and 13 assists.
The Jazz coughed up the ball 12 times in the first 17:11 yet still went into a timeout leading 34-28. It was a comedy of errors at times, with Harpring throwing an inbounds pass to no one and Williams double-dribbling.
It didn't count as a turnover, but Kirilenko checked into the game for all of 12 seconds before leaving with his third personal. Once the Jazz straightened things out, though, they built a 14-point lead.
Williams took control in the quarter, driving for a layup, hitting a runner while being fouled and draining a baseline jumper. He also got the ball where it needed to go, whether to Korver for a three-pointer or Millsap for a dunk.
Williams had 12 points and seven assists in the first half and the Jazz went the last 6:49 without a turnover. That was enough to take a 54-43 lead into halftime.
Maybe it was the 12:30 p.m. start on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The Jazz suffered another bout of turnoveritis in the third quarter and watched as their 14-point lead evaporated to a 66-62 edge in less than four minutes.
But the Jazz closed the third quarter on a 13-5 run by getting to the rim. They took a 79-67 lead into the fourth quarter as Jason Hart ran back after a Corey Maggette dunk and found Millsap for a layup with 1.2 seconds left.
