Posted: 11:30 AM- A 26-year-old inmate at the Box Elder County Jail hanged himself Saturday evening, according to the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office.

The inmate, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, was alive and well at a 5 p.m. head count Saturday, according to a statement from the sheriff.

But at about 5:15 p.m. he was found in distress and had apparently hanged himself with a bedsheet.

"Lifesaving measures were taken by the corrections staff," according to the statement, but he was later pronounced dead at Brigham City Hospital.
