A small airplane crashed in a remote section of Washington County Friday night, killing two people onboard.

Brothers Benjamin and James Timpson, of Centennial Park, Ariz., were onboard the airplane, said Benjamin Timpson' wife, Melissa. Authorities were working to make a positive identification of their remains Saturday night and there was no indication of what caused the crash, she said.

With Benjamin Timpson, 29, piloting, the single-engine Piper PA-28R-200 departed the Bountiful airport Friday evening destined for Colorado City, Ariz.

Melissa Timpson said her husband called her about 7:30 p.m. Utah time to say he would arrive in Colorado City about 50 minutes later.

Instead, the plane crashed in remote wilderness in the northeast corner of Washington County, about 30 miles north of Colorado City. It was unclear what time the plane crashed. Ladell Bistline, Colorado City airport manager, said he was contacted at 4 a.m. Saturday about the plane.

The wreck started a brush fire that firefighters contained Saturday afternoon.

Bistline said other pilots reported fog and visibility problems north of Colorado City on Friday night. Benjamin Timpson "probably either lost his way or didn't see anything," Bistline said.
